Ret. General Alfred Abramson speaks to fourth and fifth grade students at Barron Fundamental Elementary School

Ret. Army General Alfred Abramson, who spent 30 years in the military, spoke to fourth and fifth grade students at Barron Fundamental Elementary School. He talked about his life in the military and especially about discipline.

Abramson interacted with students allowing them to try on his uniform and teaching them basic commands. He also shared money from different countries that he had visited, sand from Iraq, and documents that he used during his time of service. He jumped out of airplanes and helicopters, deployed to Korea, Serbia, Bosnia, Iraq, and worked at the Pentagon. He said, “The military is not just a job, it’s a way of life.”

Abramson shared that during his tenure as a general officer, the Army comprised a total of 1.1 million soldiers, with 311 generals among them, including 39 African American generals.

He shared that he has four children, one who chose to go into the military. He stated that it is especially hard on families and children to move so often. He said he moved eight times in 10 years and a total of 17 years during his 30 years in the Army.

We thank General Abramson for his service and for taking his time to speak with our students.
