New members inducted in to Kecoughtan High School English Honor
The Kecoughtan High School English Honor Society (KEHS) Induction Ceremony took place on March 1. There were 25 new members inducted. Each member must have a 3.5 GPA in English and have completed six semesters of English before induction. They must also be in good behavioral standing at the school without any opportunity to question their academic honesty. Each year a scholarship will be awarded to one of the graduating members.
Members participate in various volunteer opportunities including tutoring and community service projects and they enter writing competitions. KEHS meets once a month and according to the National English Honor Society website,each chapter must hold business meetings to plan and direct their activities. These activities should include programs of various sorts to develop the community of people who are interested in English. Participation in such programs is one of the most valuable benefits of NEHS membership; the kinds of appropriate activities are limited only by the members' imaginations.
The NEHS motto, "gelast sceal mid are," is Old English for: "duty goes with honor." The motto represents one of the earliest forms of our language—it affirms and celebrates an obligation to use one's gifts in service to others. Service to peers, school, and community is part and parcel of the NEHS mission—and, indeed, in the grammatical structure of the Old English phrase, "duty" actually precedes "honor."

The majority of pages in our site are available in HTML format that can be deciphered by screen readers. Some documents are in Portable Document Format (PDF), which require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view.
Also, many popular browsers contain built-in accessibility tools, and there are other plug-ins that make websites more accessible.
The HCS website is designed and monitored by HCS Webmaster Vickie Carper, who serves as the gatekeeper for website content and accessibility. The Webmaster is under the direction of the Executive Director of Public Relations and Marketing, supervised by the Director of Graphics.
