Department of Innovation and Professional Learning receives 2019-2020 Technology Leadership Award

The Department of Innovation and Professional Learning, under the direction of Kate Wolfe Maxlow, director, received the Technology Leadership Award for 2019-2020.

The recipient must integrate technology into their classroom or work environment and demonstrate an impact on student learning, as well as improved effectiveness. The department and/or individual must also exhibit the best teamwork, leadership, creativity, and innovative spirit to make big things happen with technology.

John Eagle, director of information technology, shared:

This department packs a powerful punch with a small group of people.  

Their work in organizing and delivering online based instruction and professional development for teachers across the division has enabled us to deliver instruction in unprecedented times.  

They have created numerous delivery methods for service and support such as Google Classroom based professional development, the virtual help desk (which provides live video streaming in-person support with the click of a button), the cyberlearning cafe for self-paced professional development, an online lesson library, out-of-the-box lessons (which are pre-made, ready-to-use SOL-based activities), in classroom support, and with all that happening, also manage to produce the “Can’t Tech This” webcast, and so much more.  

This team brings a friendly and creative solutions approach to every task and has made online instruction of our students not only possible but practical. They embolden and bring to reality their vision of “A school district in which the magic of creativity meets the practicality of implementation every day.”
