National School Counseling Week honors hard-working counselors

National School Counseling Week 2021, "School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans," is celebrated from February 1-5, 2021, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

“School counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes,” said Carla Mahn, director of student development and counseling. “They lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan. School counselors are equipped to provide interventions and services to students who are bringing with them much more than their backpack to school each day. A counselor is always there to offer advice to students at crucial turning points in their lives. Whether these counselors work in elementary, middle, or high schools, they are there for students who are going through a difficult time or just need advice and support. A few words from a helpful counselor can profoundly impact a student’s life by improving their outlook on school, family, and the future.”

School counselors provide students with academic, college/career, and social/emotional development. Bottom line: school counselors are focusing each day, on helping students truly be career, college and life ready. This week we celebrate their efforts, hard work and dedication. Take a moment to thank your local school counselor(s). To learn more about National School Counseling Week, visit www.schoolcounselor.org/nscw.
