Forrest Elementary School sponsors a Let’s Taco ‘Bout It! night

In the times of social distancing and virtual school, administrators and staff have to be very creative in meeting the needs of their families and students. Forrest Elementary School recently held a Let’s Taco ‘Bout It! Zoom workshop for parents.

The workshop was centered around discussions about child behavior, social relationships, peer pressure, and self-care tips. In attendance was a clinical counselor from Universal Mental Health Services, the school counselor, and the student support interventionalist.

The evening included a discussion time for parents to talk about their biggest challenges with virtual learning and about what is going well and what is not going as well. The workshop ended with a short self-care quiz for parents.

“The Let’s Taco ‘Bout It workshop showed to be an important resource during this time of virtual learning. With increased time at home and less social connections, our family time becomes even more crucial,” said Jodie Schiedel-Anderson, school counselor. “Also, parents have more on their plates, which can make self-care harder but more important than ever!”

Families who participated in the workshop will be receiving a taco dinner meal sponsored by Anthem HealthKeepers Plus and Universal Mental Health Services. Family Engagement Specialist Valerie Wolfe will deliver their food bags along with a family reading activity that the family can complete while enjoying their tacos!
